Abstract

This seminar will explore the role of frontier technologies in financial services, with a focus on decentralised finance and the metaverse, and their interaction with the broader digital asset and Web3 ecosystem. Drawing on key findings from two reports published by the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR), the presentation will highlight the potential benefits and applications of these technologies, along with insights from surveys and interviews on current engagement, growth opportunities, challenges and the evolving talent landscape within the financial services industry. Additionally, it will offer a comprehensive overview of the industry landscape and a discussion of the regulatory experiences in both Hong Kong and internationally.
