Speaker's Profile
Dr Giorgio Valente currently leads the HKIMR, the research institute of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance and an affiliate of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Finance of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School and serves as Fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research. Before his current role, Dr Valente has accumulated over 15 years of experience as a full time academic at leading universities in the UK and Hong Kong, with his work published in academic journals in finance and economics. His thought leadership currently focuses on innovation in financial services, green and sustainable finance and regional financial market developments. Dr Valente has also provided research expertise to institutions such as the US Federal Reserve, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Bank for International Settlements.
Abstract
The talk will explore the emerging landscape of generative AI (GenAI) in financial services, focusing on the global regulatory environment and talent development. Recent research from the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR) will inform the discussion, which will cover key trends, challenges, and regulatory responses to GenAI adoption. Survey and interview data from industry participants in Hong Kong will provide additional insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with GenAI implementation, including talent strategies, workforce development, and risk management. The presentation will highlight the implications of these findings for students, industry practitioners and financial regulators navigating the evolving GenAI landscape.
