Fintech Research Forum
Purpose
With advances in information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI), business using new financial technology, so-called “fintech,” is developing rapidly. While it is likely that this trend will greatly change the structure of the financial industry, what specific kind of change this will bring about and how it will affect the economy overall is still unclear. Moreover, given changes in technology, important issues that will need to be considered are what kind of regulatory reforms and what kind of legal framework are desirable from the perspective of the economy as a whole.
Based on these considerations, CARF in 2015 launched the Fintech Research Forum in order to investigate these issues and make policy proposals. Given the complexity of the changes occurring, the Forum brings together experts from the fields of IT, economics, and law and, moreover, provides a venue to discuss research based on actual practice.
In addition to periodically holding public symposiums, the Fintech Research Forum in 2017 launched the Fintech Innovation Workshop to foster a closer exchange of views with practitioners and policy makers.

Fintech Innovation Workshop
The wave of major technological innovation in the field of finance is expected to substantially change the future of the financial industry and the institutions and regulations that support it. The Fintech Research Forum therefore set up the Fintech Innovation Workshop as a venue for more meaningful discussions and research exchanges among economists, legal scholars, IT researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.
The Workshop seeks to address questions such as how the financial system and financial business will change in the future given the major advances in technology such as big data, AI, blockchain technology, etc., and what the challenges are. In addition, the Workshop examines how governments, corporations, and financial institutions should respond and what the legal and regulatory issues are.
